Learn to swim
Black Lion Swimming Club deliver a planned learn to swim programme, which is run by experienced and qualified staff. We provide a high standard of teaching throughout each course, thus achieving satisfaction and rapid progression throughout each level of the plan.
We teach using the National Plan For Teaching Swimming which is a nationally recognised course. We aim to make the lessons fun and enjoyable. The main emphasis being to develop water confidence with the swimmers.
Swimmers will be continuously assessed and awards will be presented as they reach the required standard. Following progression through the different stages and having attained all the awards there is a chance to continue with further swimming within our competitive squads. We have clear pathways for progression and then to develop competitive swimmers.
At Black Lion S.C. we continuously assess our teachers and coaches and send them on courses on a regular basis to update their education.Basically the programme for teaching swimming is divided into 7 programme levels with each level containing 10 stages.
Stage 1: assessment of current standard in relation to the standards that were required at conclusion of previous level. Stage 2, 3 and 4: separate progressive teaching stages designed to develop a range of skills. Stage 5: interim assessments, further revision, teacher review, and consolidate against stated outcomes. Stage 6, 7 and 8: separate progressive teaching stages designed to develop a range of skills. Stage 9: assessments against outcomes appropriate to the level. Stage 10: reassessment if required, award presentation, development of individual, pair and group games.
